BETWEEN THE LINES, a new installation in studio 308

October, 2019
Simo Neri presents BETWEEN THE LINES, a new, re-purposed installation in studio 308.

“Read between the lines. Then meet me in the silence if you can.” (May Sarton)

I’m a lover of books. Both my studio and my home contain shelf after shelf of books — some I’ve read, some I may read soon, and some I may never read but whose titles remind me of something I care about. I love to look at them, to photograph them in sequences, to accumulate the images into large works and observe the abstract patterns made by their colored spines. I find myself seduced by the visual rhythms of the page ends of books.
For me these compositions evoke large bodies of water. An apt metaphor is an ocean of knowledge, wave after wave of books moving peacefully, rhythmically, towards the viewer. Line, space, texture, color, variety, balance, pattern, and rhythm.

Come visit my studio and Step into the Rhythm! during the upcoming Fall Open Studios at Studio 308, 1890 BRYANT STREET STUDIOS.
Saturday 10/26 and Sunday 10/27, 11 am – 6 pm.

Opening preview Friday October 25, 6-9 pm.

“The mathematics of rhythm are universal. They don’t belong to any particular culture.” (John McLaughlin)
