During a run in the Jardin de Luxembourg, I noticed the sudden absence of one of my favorite trees. What was left behind were bits and pieces of bark and roots, mixed in with the occasional fall leaf. A deep sense of general uprootedness invaded me and I felt the acute pang of my own displacement from multiple places and cultures.
