Northern Lights in My Bathroom 2023Sequential photography, steam, light, mirror, time. Archival dye sublimation print on aluminum, custom maple wood frame, edition of 525" x 40" ,150/ea.This work is part of the STEAM series, an experiment in photo-painting. Every time I take a shower I observe the steam building up on the bathroom mirror. Patches of colors and textures are reflected, blurry and vague. Over time, as I look more closely, the steam condenses and starts dripping down gracefully over the mirror’s surface. My camera captures the movement, at times liquid and sharp, at times soft and blurred. I capture dripping jewels in suspended animation, amidst fields of wild or muted color. I arrange the images in graphic sequences. Each finished piece tells a story.

The steam condenses and drips down the mirror’s surface as my camera captures time within the movement. Over time the steam condenses and starts dripping down the mirror’s surface. My camera captures the movement, at times liquid and sharp, at times soft and blurred. I arrange the images in graphic sequences. Each finished piece tells a story. Here I am reminded of the famous northern lights phenomenon, now occurring in a domestic environment.
