Surface design for textiles typically involves some really specialized tools. Artist Simo Neri’s Wearing Cities project features a range of soft surface hangings and wearables with patterns created from thousands of digital photos. Each of the pieces focuses on a single theme, building exteriors, traffic lines on pavement, or people walking on a sidewalk. Neri arranges the photos to pattern the detail density, color and shapes within each image so at a distance it has a more abstract read. Neri partnered with Paris-based fashion designer Eun hwa to create a series of garments covered in photos.
