Nénuphar is French for a water lily – or lotus flower. I came upon this pond of water lillies when visiting the international festival of designer gardens at Chaumont-sur-Loire. Something about the perfect shapes of the leaves, repeated yet varied, in various stages of evolution struck me as a metaphor for the passage of time. All in one arresting visual moment.
